Once upon a time, there was a little 7-year-old Chihuahua named Sid who weighed just 11 pounds.
Sid was found all alone under a van in a kind human’s driveway after spending two days in the hot sun, waiting for the person who had adopted him from another shelter three years earlier to come back for him after leaving him there.
Sid came into our rescue on August 14th. He was exhausted, hungry, scared, and not feeling very well. We took him to the vet immediately and learned that he needed quite a few procedures to get him feeling his best.
After sharing Sid’s story on our Facebook page, our amazing supporters helped us raise enough money to fix his teeth, get him neutered, and have an additional surgery called a phallopexy to make him more comfortable. (We’ll let you Google that one.)
In less than a week, Sid was on the mend!
During his stay with us, we’ve learned a lot about Sid and the kind of person and home he would thrive with. And for this little boy, who has already been failed too many times, we want to get it right.
Sid is very much a Velcro/lap dog.
If you’re sitting, Sid is right beside you. If you’re sleeping, Sid is under the covers at your feet. And if you even dare to think about putting him in a crate or the laundry room while you have company over, Sid will happily bark for hours on end to express his displeasure.
So, our goal is to find Sid a person who genuinely wants him with them most of the time. Someone who doesn’t mind sharing their space — and their bed — with him. He may also enjoy having another small dog to cozy up with in the event that you decide to go out to dinner or do something equally ridiculous and selfish. ;)
He's housetrained, but while he continues to heal from his phallopexy, we keep a belly band on him as a precaution. This is temporary and part of his recovery — not because he hasn’t learned his house manners.
Sid has wonderful recall. You can call him from just about anywhere, and he’ll be at your feet in a flash.
His main goal in life is to love his person.
His secondary goal is to eat.
Sid’s teeth were in rough shape when he first arrived. He had eight teeth extracted, followed by a dental, which ultimately made eating much more enjoyable for our little fella. These days, he’ll happily chew on a cow hoof or bully stick with no qualms. He loves the soft treats he gets at bedtime and will even “allow” you to share your own snacks with him while he sits on your lap, leaving approximately three square inches of room for your plate.
What can we say?
He’s not perfect, but he’s perfect for someone.
Sid has what is called a parrot mouth, or mandibular brachygnathism, which means his lower jaw is shorter than his upper jaw. It makes him look like he’s smiling all the time, and when he’s lying down, you can see his little upper toofers.
We find this completely endearing, and we know his forever person will, too.
Sid is now fully vetted and ready to find his person. He's tolerant of cats who leave him alone and has enjoyed the company of every size and age of dog here at Good Catch as long as they don't play too rough.
We’re accepting adopters in Texas and other Southern states so we can avoid putting him through an unnecessarily long crated transport. We also have a feeling Sid would choose sunshine over snow any day.
If you’re looking for 11 pounds of loyalty, lap-warming, snack supervision, under-the-cover sleeping, and unconditional love, Sid just might be your guy.
