Meet Sherpa!
Born on the first day of May, Sherpa is an Australian Shepherd mix with an adorable, ancestral look that's impossible not to love. He's full of puppy charm, intelligence and personality. When he's awake, he's all about play, exploration and fun; when he's tired, he's a sweet, calm puppy who loves to curl up and rest.
Like many herding-breed puppies, Sherpa is smart, curious and energetic. He enjoys having things to do and thrives when he's engaged with people, toys and new experiences. He is happiest when he gets plenty of attention and enrichment throughout the day and would do best with a family committed to continuing his training, socialization, and exercise.
Sherpa is very much a "pack" animal. He loves being with his people and other dogs and doesn't tend to wander off on his own. He has shown no interest in cats.He bonds quickly, enjoys affection, and especially loves a good scratch in just the right spot—the kind that gets his back leg kicking! His foster believes he would do very well in a home with another dog and would likely be a wonderful companion for children and teens. For families with very young children, adult guidance will be important as Sherpa is still learning puppy manners, including bite inhibition.
One thing to know about Sherpa is that this fluffy boy prefers cooler temperatures. With his thick coat, he tends to run warm and is happiest when the weather is mild or cool. He'll likely greet winter like a long-lost friend and enjoy outdoor adventures during the cooler months. Because of this, we're looking for an adopter in a moderate to cooler climate where he can comfortably enjoy an active lifestyle year-round.
Sherpa is making great progress with housetraining. Whenever he's taken outside, he reliably goes potty and he has never had a poop accident indoors. He is eager to learn and responds well to redirection. When he finds something he shouldn't chew, he's usually happy to trade it for an appropriate toy or chew.
Sherpa is the kind of puppy who will thrive growing up alongside an active, loving family. With continued guidance, training and plenty of affection, he'll become an incredible lifelong companion and a best friend for years to come.
Sherpa is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and receiving flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. Puppies in our care who are 6 months of age or older are spayed or neutered through Good Catch. For younger puppies, this responsibility falls to the adopter.
We are based in Texas but adopt to multiple states. Our goal is always to find the very best match for each pup, and we work with trusted transport partners to safely deliver them to their forever homes.
