Sassy is a 5-month-old Chihuahua/Dachshund mix who is every bit as smart and fun as she is beautiful. This little girl has a personality much bigger than her tiny frame, and once you meet her, it doesn't take long to understand why everyone falls in love with her.
At only 2 months old, Sassy was given away to an elderly woman who, just one month later, reached out to Good Catch for help finding her a new home. Puppies are a lot of energy and a lot of work, and she realized she simply wasn't able to keep up with everything a growing, playful puppy needs. We were happy to welcome Sassy into the Good Catch family and give her the chance to find a home that's ready for all the fun that comes with her.
Weighing in at just 14 pounds, we don't expect Sassy to get much bigger. She may be small, but don't let her size fool you—this girl can absolutely hold her own with the rest of the crew.
Sassy has teamed up with our resident Chihuahua, Sweetie, and foster Chihuahua, Sid, to form what can only be described as a tiny trio of troublemakers. Whether they're chasing each other through the house, wrestling, stealing toys or plotting their next adventure, Sassy is happiest when she has a canine friend nearby.
Because of how much she thrives on the companionship and play of other dogs, we believe Sassy will do best in a home with another small, playful pup. She takes her cues from the dogs around her and has wonderful canine manners. She is polite and respectful with the older dogs in our rescue and knows when it's time to tone things down. When someone is ready to play, however, Sassy is all in. She even enjoys a fast-paced game of tag with our foster Heeler, Dolly, proving that short legs are no obstacle when you're determined to win.
One of Sassy's most endearing features is her overbite, sometimes called a parrot mouth and more formally known as brachygnathism. It gives her little face an unmistakable look and only adds to her charm. Thankfully, it does not interfere with her ability to eat or chew. Her buddy Sid happens to have one too, and although the two aren't related, seeing their matching little smiles together makes them quite the pair.
Sassy is playful, but she's also incredibly affectionate. She enjoys being snuggled, talked to and included in whatever her people are doing. She's the type of dog who wants to be part of the family rather than watching life happen from another room. Talk to her and she'll happily soak up every word as if the two of you are having a very important conversation.
We think Sassy would be a wonderful fit for an active family, including one with young children who understand how to be gentle with a small dog. She has plenty of puppy energy for games and adventures, followed by an equally strong appreciation for affection and cuddle time.
What Sassy is not looking for is a home where she'll routinely spend long days completely alone. She's a social little dog who needs companionship. Her ideal family will have people around for a good portion of the day or another friendly, appropriately sized dog who can be her buddy when her humans are away.
Sassy is doing very well with housetraining when kept on a consistent schedule. She is already crate trained, and we're currently working on leash training using a harness. Like any 5-month-old puppy, she'll need a family willing to continue teaching her, provide structure and patiently help her grow into the wonderful adult dog she's already showing us she can be.
When it comes to entertainment, Sassy isn't particularly difficult to please. Cow hooves? Yes. Pig ears? Absolutely. Tennis balls? Of course. Toys belonging to somebody else that she can steal and proudly parade away with? Even better.
Her favorite times of day might just be mornings and evenings—especially when meals are involved. That's when her contagious little burst of spunk really comes alive. She approaches life with enthusiasm, curiosity and the kind of happiness that's impossible not to smile at.
Sassy is funny, affectionate, social, mischievous and incredibly lovable. She'll bring playtime, companionship, laughter and probably a little bit of harmless chaos to the lucky family that calls her their own.
If you've been looking for a pint-sized best friend with a big personality—and perhaps a built-in excuse to buy far too many dog toys—Sassy may be your girl. All she needs now is a family ready to give her the companionship, playtime, guidance and love she deserves.
