Rosie was rescued by her foster mom from a local county shelter, where far too many wonderful dogs are overlooked. She spent nearly three weeks in a concrete-and-wire kennel, waiting for her chance at freedom.

We knew from the beginning that Rosie was deaf, but we didn’t know what that might mean for her ability to learn, adjust and thrive in a home. After just a few days of decompressing, catching up on much-needed sleep and realizing she was finally safe, Rosie’s personality began to shine.

Rosie is truly a people dog. She lights up when she meets someone new, wagging her tail with pure excitement and soaking up every bit of attention and affection she can get. Being deaf hasn’t dampened her joy one bit. She leans into love, smiles for belly rubs and has a way of making everyone she meets feel like an old friend. And if her sweet personality doesn’t win you over right away, her adorable heart-shaped spot on her nose just might. ❤

When it comes to other dogs, Rosie can get a little overexcited during play. Because she can’t hear vocal cues, she may miss when another dog is trying to tell her they’ve had enough. At just about 1½ -2 years old and 60 pounds, she’s still very much an oversized puppy with plenty to learn. For that reason, we think Rosie would do best as the queen of her own castle, with children over 12. When she gets wound up, she can be mouthy in that playful, puppyish way, so an older-kid household would be the best fit.

We believe Rosie is an American Bulldog and she certainly fits the mold. She’s about 60% couch potato and takes her lounging very seriously. When she isn’t snoozing, snoring, or stretching out beside her people, she enjoys long-lasting treats to keep her busy. It’s clear Rosie wasn’t raised with toys, so she’s still learning how much fun they can be. Even though she can’t hear a squeaker, she seems to prefer squeaky toys over balls or chew toys.

Rosie is fully vetted, crate trained, house trained and walks well on a leash. She has received a ProHeart 12 for a full year of heartworm prevention and has a clean bill of health.

Rosie has already come so far and now she’s ready for the part she’s been waiting for most: a family of her own. She has a big personality, an even bigger heart and so much love to give.
