Gidget is a 3-year-old, 6-pound, Shih Tzu mix who was found as a stray and ended up in our local shelter. She's so small that they kept her safe in the cat "wing" while she waited to be rescued.

For only 6 pounds, this little girl has a TON of character, and we want to share what we know of her with you.

First, Gidget might be the pickiest eater we've ever had. She turns her nose up to kibble and will only eat canned if she's super hungry. We've found that "Freshpet" is what currently works for her but some mornings she'd prefer to sleep in than have breakfast. This girl is on her own schedule and we're just here to serve her when she tells us she's ready...

Gidget is not a fan of big dogs or dogs that are too curious of her or her space. She's okay with cats as long as the cats are okay with dogs. She'd do best as an only child 😉 since we believe that's what she was used to before entering rescue. She tolerates our smaller dogs as long as they pretend she's invisible.

Gidget's real personality comes out when it's time to go for a walk. She's VERY adventurous and curious. Because of her tiny stature, it's not safe to leave her out without supervision, so a person who is committed to be by her side while she's outdoors is her best match. She'd do great in an apartment or condo as long as she gets her walks in. She's completely housetrained and knows to ask to go outside to go potty.

Gidget hasn't shown any interest in toys but loves to be in her person's company. She burrows under blankets and will share your bed with you if you let her. She's too small to jump up onto (or down from) the couch so she'll need steps if you allow dogs on your couch.

This good catch is fully vetted. She's on Bravecto flea and tick and like all of our healthy dogs over one year old, she’s received a ProHeart12 shot for year-long heartworm prevention. She sleeps peacefully through the night and loves to go for car rides.

For out-of-state adopters, Gidget can travel safely with one of our trusted transport partners, Freedom Run Express or Tigger’s Texas Transport. We adopt to multiple states to ensure each dog finds their perfect match.
