Every so often, a dog comes to Good Catch who simply needs to be saved and vetted, without requiring training or a lengthy period of decompression. Dolly is one of those lucky pups, and we'd love to tell you about her.
At just 1 1/2 years old, Dolly was picked up by animal control after an elderly Good Samaritan, who'd been feeding her for a month, called for help.
The day we picked her up from the shelter was also the day she met our vet for the first time. There was no stranger danger with this girl! She sat politely for treats while they checked her out, and when they returned to the room, she sat again, patiently awaiting her reward.
Dolly tested positive for heartworms that day and has since completed treatment. She never skipped a beat! She might be our easiest patient so far, showing no signs of pain or inflammation following her injections.
Dolly weighs in at 33 pounds. She always has. She's a dainty blue heeler mix, and that heeler instinct becomes especially apparent when anything with wheels starts moving. She doesn't try to herd people or other dogs, but she'll chase a wheel as far as it'll roll! For that reason alone, she'll need a fenced-in yard or a home with acreage, safely away from the road.
Dolly's number one priority is being by her person's side. When her favorite human isn't around, she's perfectly happy enjoying the company of other dogs. Her best friend at the rescue is Aster, who's been adopted and will be leaving soon. Her second bestie is Sassy, a 13-pound Chihuahua pup who plays with Dolly like a sibling.
Dolly doesn't necessarily need another dog in her forever home, provided her person is around most of the time. But if her future adopter works long hours, she'll need a canine companion to keep her company. She's also unfazed by the cats in her foster home and has amazing recall.
Dolly is always ready for the next task, command, or reward. She took to crate training like a star, although she doesn't actually need a crate. In rescue, we crate train for two reasons: First, most of our dogs travel on transport and need to be comfortable in crates. Second, we're a rescue, and we need to maintain some order! Dolly has already proven herself to be an exceptional houseguest when left free in the home.
She's fully vetted, leash trained, house trained, wonderful with dogs, accepting of cats, and a lover of people. She enjoys car rides and tagging along wherever her favorite person may take her. Her favorite game with the other dogs is tug-of-war, and so far, she hasn't shown much interest in other toys.
Dolly is a special girl. She didn't need us to teach her how to be a wonderful dog. She just needed someone to give her a chance.
Now we'd like to find someone equally as special to share her life with.
