Zipper and his sister Macy were just 3 months old when they were found dumped along a creek bed in Guadalupe County back in early July. Sadly, this scenario plays out time and time again here in Texas. Macy and Zipper are just a few of the lucky ones who have made it into rescue to find their second chance in life.
We don’t know much about Zipper’s past, but we can safely assume that it wasn’t the best. Even as a young pup, he was very apprehensive and skeptical with people. He lacked the level of self-confidence that most puppies his age are known to have. It led us to believe that someone was not kind, loving, or nurturing toward him. He was much thinner than his sister, and it was obvious that he was underweight for a pup of his size.
Since being rescued we have seen Zipper make huge strides in his rehabilitation. His socialization skills with people and other animals have increased greatly since being in his foster home. Zipper is still slow to warm when meeting new people, but once you gain this pupper’s trust you will have it for life. This handsome boy continues to gain confidence in himself as he is exposed to different circumstances and environments.
Zipper has a very submissive personality, but he still greets every dog with great enthusiasm by licking their face and rolling over to show his belly. His gentle demeanor is evidenced by him avoiding any type of conflict as he found his place within his foster family’s pack. Zipper is a very playful and active pup. He enjoys racing around in the yard for games of tag and tug of war with the other dogs. He will need a moderate to large sized, fenced in yard to stretch those legs and meet his puppy energy level. He loves being outdoors just as much as he loves being indoors. One of his favorite activities includes playing in water and splashing in mud puddles.
Zipper has done well with the resident cats in his foster home but with any of our fosters, we always recommend supervision as a precaution. He conquered crate and leash training like a pro and has a good balance of energy to play paired with a level of calmness to rest.
Zipper has proven to be a nondestructive pup while crated as long as his energy requirements are met. For that reason, Zipper would do best in a home where someone is there most of the time. The ideal adoptive family needs to dedicate sufficient daily time for exercise and play, social skill development, and mental enrichment. A securely fenced yard is a must. No apartment living for this boy.
Zipper wants nothing more than finding a family to call his own. He was let down by bad humans once before, and we are dedicated to preventing that from happening again. Zipper’s ideal adopters need to provide structure, consistency, love, and affection to continue setting him up for success. This handsome Texan is approximately 8 months old now and we did a dna test and found he was 50% border collie. Results can be seen on our website.
We know he will make a great companion; he just needs an understanding and patient person to help him continue to blossom.
Zipper currently weighs 40 lbs, and we estimate him to top out around the 45-50 lb range. He is fully vetted, microchipped and current on flea, tick and heartworm preventatives.
We only use trusted transport partners to deliver our foster dogs to their adoptive families up North.
