In June of this year Howdy the Heeler mix found himself as a stray in a small town called Hico, TX. He was just a 3 month old pup and picked up by animal control. 5 months later in their facility and through no fault of his own, he still hadn't found a family and was looking to be rescued or adopted.

Howdy came to Good Catch at 8 months and 37 pounds. He blended in with our current pack seamlessly and quickly found peace with his new life as a companion. He bonds to his people fast and leans in comfortably. This boy has yearned for a home and family of his own since the moment he was left abandoned, and it shows.

Howdy is a people pleaser. He responds immediately to verbal correction and has navigated his new life among 13 other pups like a pro. This handsome heeler is smart. He took to his foster's schedule and crate training immediately and settled in without skipping a beat.

Howdy's favorite things are to accompany his person in their daily routine, play keep away with the other dogs, chase balls and go for walks. He is an easy pairing for adult dogs but feels the need to correct the younger ones. Howdy picks up on cues quickly from those that don't want to play or engage and has found a few favorites in his new pack that he considers himself to be besties with. One of them is a dog we have in our rescue named Bonnie who is very shutdown and always nervous. Howdy has breached that barrier with her and has shown her a brighter side to being a rescued dog. He has an air of confidence in play while still submissive to his elders as a young dog who continues to learn and grow.

Among many other breeds, we believe Howdy may have some Collie mix in him. These working breeds aren't uncommon in the rural town he was picked up in. Howdy isn't done filling out just yet but will probably top out around 45 pounds.

A good match for this good catch would be with an adopter who's looking for a right-hand man to accompany them throughout their day and life. Someone who won't mind sharing the front seat of a pickup truck with their canine companion and considers their dog to be family. Howdy in turn will provide endless comradery and will keep you laughing with the joy he has in the simplest pleasures.

Howdy is fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and on monthly flea, tick and heartworm prevention. He will require a home with a yard as this is not a breed for confinement to apartment living. He is house trained, does well outside of a crate (no chewing) and has no interest in the farm cats. This boy will prove to you that rescued dogs make the most loyal pals.

We only use trusted transport partners to deliver our foster dogs to their adoptive families up North. Our adoption fee is $350 and the cost to transport is an additional $300.
